Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit is a novel by Jeannette Winterson published in 1985. As her writing style is vivid, experimental and imaginative, I tried to reflect her style in the cover of the book. The novel has many themes and layers within so the aim was to include as many of these aspects as possible. For the cover I have drawn an illustration which holds the type together. It shows the main character Jeanette going away from her home and the world she once belonged to. As the novel was set in the Northern part of England, I have looked at L.S.Lowry’s paintings and used some of his colour palettes as reference. Lowry was born in Lancashire, the same place where the author grew up.
