Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit is a novel by Jeannette Winterson, published in 1985. Given Winterson's vivid, experimental, and imaginative writing style, I aimed to capture these qualities in the book cover. The novel encompasses numerous themes and layers, prompting me to incorporate as many of these aspects as possible into the cover design. The illustration on the cover serves as the unifying element, depicting the main character, Jeanette, moving away from her home and the world to which she once belonged. To maintain a connection with the novel's setting in the Northern part of England, I drew inspiration from L.S. Lowry's paintings and utilized some of his color palettes as a reference. It's worth noting that Lowry, born in Lancashire, shares the same birthplace as the author.
