Graphic Designer and Illustrator

The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen has always been one of my favorite stories. This tragic short story is familiar to everyone.

This was the graduation piece for my Visual Communication Design degree. It was an attempt to make the fairytale brand-new by giving the mermaids a different look.

This project involved a lot of imagination. Based on some underwater images and visual research, I aimed to create a unique underwater world for this well known story.

As the story begins with describing the castle of the Sea King, I imagined it to be built with the underwater creatures, like sea anemone, shells and seaweeds. It would be home to the mermaids but to the other sea creatures as well.

“She was a strange child, quiet and thoughtful.”

This was my first time illustrating the whole book.  Thanks for watching!
